Before I dive deep into the world of hot fudge sundaes, I felt I must pay homage to the place that inspired me to take this journey: McDonald’s.
In the rare times when the ice cream machine isn’t broken, one can find the deliciousness that is the Hot Fudge Sundae on the McDonald’s menu.

Quality of toppings:
There are no toppings to get in the way of the holy matrimony that is vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. The ice cream is just the right amount of cold, the hot fudge is just the right amount of hot. Adding anything, even a cherry on top would be an abomination in the eyes of this simple yet uncharacteristically sophisticated dessert.
Quality of fudge:
While the hot fudge is indeed hot, it is remarkable how malleable it actually is. By means of some food science I cannot understand, the fudge retains it’s heat and consistency even when it is mixed into the vanilla ice cream. Truly, a spectacular innovation in the sundae world.
Level of comfort only ordering a sundae:
Some have fears of ordering only ice cream from McDonald’s, thanks to the “coning” fad that began at the start of this decade. With hot fudge sundaes, however, there is a certain trust it creates between the employee and the customer. The customer is too wise to settle for regular ice cream, they want something more; the McDonald employee respects that.
I chose this to be the first review I publish because I will likely base all of my reviews on the McDonald’s sundae. As time goes on, the bar may rise and a new king of hot fudge may catch my taste buds by surprise. This is the event I can only hope to experience on this harrowing journey.
