This is the first time I’ve reviewed a chain restaurant’s sundae since the beloved McDonald’s. Part of my reasons for choosing “America’s Diner” is because of its late-night popularity among college students. The other reason is some friends and I had just seen Captain Marvel and it was 10 pm, leaving most local and smaller-chain options limited.
Thank goodness we can always trust things open 24-hours!
We chose the largest booth possible to accommodate the five of us: the corner booth. Best suited for groups larger than 8, we had to shout our suggestions to each other. Of course, there was no question what I would be consuming that evening: a hot fudge sundae (and a side of hashbrowns because I have no self-control after 11 pm).
Our waiter showed excellent service, nearly sprinting from table to table to make sure everyone got their orders in a timely manner. I had to ask him if they had hot fudge sundaes since they weren’t on the menu. He laughed, “yea, we got sundaes.”
I’m not sure why he laughed; it made me a little self-conscious. Was I missing a huge part of the menu that broadcasted world-class sundaes in large, shiny letters? I hope not, I didn’t want to seem like an amateur this far into my journey.

The desserts were the first to come out. When I saw my sundae, I was a little surprised. The glass was tall, chocolate ice cream was the base, and the whipped cream looked like it was about to fall off the top. After I could take it all in, I determined this looked good.
I was kind of right.
Quality of Toppings:
There was one topping: whipped cream. I wasn’t sure if I should be happy to have anything at all, considering I don’t know if there were any more options I could’ve chosen from. Limp and already melting, this whipped cream left little to be desired.
Quality of Fudge:
On my first bite, the thought crossed my mind, “this ice cream is warm?” Then I realized it was the fudge.
This doesn’t usually happen with hot fudge sundaes. It should be pretty easy to discern what is fudge and what is ice cream. My assumption is this was hot chocolate sauce when it made contact with the ice cream because nowhere else in the sundae felt warm. The fudge even mixed with the ice cream towards the bottom, which would usually be hard to tell when the base is already chocolate ice cream. But, as we know, this isn’t my first rodeo.
Level of Comfort Ordering a Hot Fudge Sundae:
Low. Very low. It should’ve been on the menu, and he shouldn’t have laughed at me.
I’m very sensitive.
Would I Rather Get a McDonald’s Sundae?
I don’t even know how must this cost because it WASN’T ON THE MENU.
Besides the point, McDonald’s is better.
Final Score: 4.7/10
