A day in Lava Hot Springs means a day filled with sitting in a stew of strangers. This stew is sweaty and full of children, yet oddly relaxing.
Most of the times I frequent the area, I’ll sit in the pools for about two hours, switching back and forth between the hot, hotter and hottest pools. Eventually, I give in to my weak-will and settle for the lowest temperature pool to continue a casual conversation with my colleagues.
After those steamy two hours, it’s then to time to find a snack for my cooked insides. This particular visit left me extremely famished, so a quick stop at a local diner satisfied my craving for actual sustenance.
The group I was with knew about this blog and wanted to see my creative process. Luckily for them, I was craving new content and a sweet treat.
Our option was one: Sweet Stuff. This ice creamery specializes in square ice cream scoops. I don’t know why that’s appealing. If anything, it seems to make eating an ice cream cone harder than it should be; I don’t like dealing with corners.

They had a sundae option and a banana split option; I had to explain the difference to my friends.
The sundae came with a brownie on the bottom and my choice of two toppings. I chose some nuts and Oreos. The ice cream, also of my choosing, were caramel and double chocolate scoops.
Quality of Toppings:
The oreo immediately assaulted the top of my mouth with my first bite, making a very unpleasant experience. But I chose Oreos, so that’s on me. The nuts added little to no texture.
The “bottoming” of the brownie was ok, but I got bored with it after about two bites.
Quality of Fudge:
I didn’t really notice the fudge as I was eating it, which seemed odd to me. Then I remembered one of my flavors was double chocolate, which surely masked the taste of the fudge. That was my poor foresight, so that’s on me. Regardless, the fudge should’ve been distinct simply because it should’ve been hot.
Level of Comfort Ordering a Hot Fudge Sundae:
Sweet Stuff is a sweet shop, so I’d feel weird ordering anything BUT a hot fudge sundae.
Would I Rather Get a McDonald’s Sundae?
Yes. This sundae had a lot going on and most of it wasn’t good. Also, it was like $5, which isn’t the worst but a little costly considering we were in the middle of nowhere.
Final Score: 5.1/10
