For the first time in this journey, we’ve made a return to the same ice cream parlor. Why did it take so long, you might ask? It’s because of my pride. I envisioned each review to represent the complete hot fudge sundae experience of that establishment. Surely one encounter could eloquently capture everything an ice cream parlor or restaurant had to offer, right?
Yes. Actually, I still feel that way. But for the sake of pumping out content, and because this place is so dang close to my apartment, I’m milking it for all it’s worth.
The reality is I went back to Margie’s less than two weeks after my first visit. I was so impressed by the first one! And my compatriot, who recommended I finally go try Margie’s, wanted to join me on the journey. We set our sights on the next most appealing sundae on the menu: the Cherry Sundae.

The maraschino cherry is often the most discarded part of a sundae. Thus, it seemed bold to me that they would choose to base an entire sundae around that flavor profile. So bold, I must try. What I found was something that left much to be desired.
Quality of Toppings
The toppings were all about what you’d expect—nuts, cherry, whipped cream. What gave this sundae its namesake, however, was the cherry sauce that filled the sides of the styrofoam container. This syrup was somewhere between Italian Ice cherry and cough syrup—perhaps leaning towards the latter. All I’ll say is it was very medicinal.
Quality of Fudge
The fudge saved this one, though it was hard to tease out those rich flavors I tasted last time, on account of the mouthful of medicine juice swishing around my tongue.
Level of Comfort Ordering a Hot Fudge Sundae
About the same as last time. Though it wasn’t quite as slick. Last time I was out the door in 2 minutes flat. This time we had to wait around for a little longer. Maybe it’s because no one orders this sundae so they didn’t have them ready to go. Or maybe it took them a little while to dilute the Vick’s to a consumable level.
Would I Rather Get a McDonald’s Hot Fudge Sundae?
Sadly, yes. Margie’s is 1 for 2. But that 1 is still enough to keep me coming back for more. This was a fluke, I say! A fluke!
Final Score: 5.3/10
