Farr Better Ice Cream – “And Dole Whip”

Farr is a chain of ice creameries in Utah. There is also a candy shop in Idaho Falls with the name “Farr,” but my research can’t confirm they’re from the same company (the research lasted two seconds, stopping when I couldn’t find a web link about the candy store).

My colleagues and I chose Farr’s because I wanted to get something local and it was closing in 20 minutes. We thought it was closed when we arrived, but it turns out the workers were just getting a head start on their sweeping duties. I love cleanly workers.

Everyone else in Utah County must have also realized they wanted ice cream with 20 minutes to spare; no one was there when we pulled up, then suddenly three families showed up all at once. I cut in front of them because I’m selfish.

They had a selection of around 20 flavors of ice cream. They also had Dole Whip, which pulled my friend’s attention.

The process of making a hot fudge sundae was a little confusing, but one of their ice cream scoopers was there to metaphorically hold my hand through the process. She explained the difference between the single and double scoop options (one had one scoop of ice cream while the other had two scoops) and what toppings could be included.

I went with a double scoop, because I’m naughty. The flavors I chose were maple pecan and chocolate chip cookie dough, which complimented each other flawlessly. Though, really, they didn’t need to.

No, you’re not seeing double. The double scoop essentially meant I was eating TWO HOT FUDGE SUNDAES. It was unreal. I was ecstatic.

This meant a couple of things. One, I was eating two hot fudge sundaes. Two, the ice cream flavors I chose didn’t even need to compliment each other since they wouldn’t be mixing. Farr scored some big points for this.

Quality of Toppings:

The nuts weren’t as finely chopped as I’ve grown accustomed, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. The whipped cream was nothing to write home about, but I am writing about it on my blog. Perplexing.

Quality of Fudge:

Sadly, it was chocolate sauce. That seems to be the plague of most of these establishments. Granted, it wasn’t just Hershey’s. It was some high-end chocolate sauce. Or maybe it was Hershey’s and I’m just an idiot. Regardless, I didn’t mind it.

Level of Comfort Ordering a Hot Fudge Sundae:

The scooper explaining everything to me left it a painless process. I knew exactly what I was doing and *thought* I knew what I’d be getting, never expecting it would be better than what I imagined.

Would I Rather Get a McDonald’s Sundae?

Absolutely. It’s two sundaes for like five bucks! Just remember to always get the double scoop, because the single might not be as worth it.

Final Score: 8.0/10

And don’t forget, they also have Dole Whip.
